Volunteering at The Painted Turtle CampKimberly McCalmont ’19 volunteered at The Painted Turtle in the beginning of August 2018. Kimberly reflected, “I truly enjoyed volunteering at The Painted Turtle. It was really eye opening and was nice to see where Delta Zeta’s efforts are going towards. The session I worked was the Sibling Session, where I loved working with the kids and getting to relate their stories to mine. My favorite part of The Painted Turtle was seeing how happy these children were during the week. This trip was truly amazing and I can’t wait to volunteer there again!”
Sam Fillar '23 got the opportunity to experience The Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes, California during the summers of 2022 and 2023. According to Sam, "The Painted Turtle (TPT) was truly the best experience of my life. The camp is a place where kids can go to get away from their everyday lives and raise a little hell, as Paul Newman used to say. I started attending camp in the summer of 2022, and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend for two sessions in 2023. Each time I go, I am surrounded by love and the joy of camp. Being able to see these kids have the best time of their lives is something everyone needs to experience. I have even made lifelong friends from camp. We even plan our weeks of going around each other to make sure we get to go together."

Heart for Hearing and SpeechA National Fundraiser that originally started with Delta Zeta's Hike for Hearing in February 2015 and has become Heart for Hearing. The pledge was to raise $5 million over the five years for speech and hearing. Our chapter has participated in this fundraiser since 2015. In 2020 Delta Zeta raised over $5.5 million dollars in five years for the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Upon reaching the five year goal in 2020 Delta Zeta expanded Heart for Hearing to be Heart for Hearing and Speech. With this expansion they added American Society for Deaf Children as a philanthropy partner. Hike for HearingThe first Hike for Hearing was inspired from the television show, The Amazing Race. This was a week long event to raise money for the Starkey Hearing Foundation. It was held in early October and each day there will be a different competition with the main event being held at Fraternity Hill.
